Infrared Sessions and Working Out

Fitness and exercise have come a long way. Throughout history, humankind has discovered what they’ve called many “formulas” for the perfect way to stay in shape, but the truth is, it depends on the person! Thankfully, there are numerous options for achieving fitness and wellness goals and infrared sessions are the perfect addition to your current wellness or fitness regimen.

Far Infrared heat is a form of electromagnetic light energy that is invisible to the human eye. It shows itself as heat and it can penetrate through the skin to provide wellness benefits. The thermal effect deep within the layers of tissue can cause blood vessels and capillaries to dilate, improving blood circulation and helping the body to get rid of fats, toxins and metabolic wastes through via sweat. Most people also produce sweat during exercise, however, infrared induced perspiration is a bit different as infrared can penetrate deeply into the body to break up fats and toxins, releasing them through sweat glands and bodily functions. How will I have time to do both you ask? Not to worry! Short, 20 minute exercises can be just as effective, and scientific data along with Buzzfeed approximate that there are about 12 moves you can learn to achieve the ultimate full body work out at home. This means that you can get your work out on and body wrap all within about 2 hours. How’s that for an efficient fitness routine? We’ve got nothing against a nice sweaty gym session either, but we know that it may not be accessible to everyone. For those that cannot physically participate in traditional exercise a one-hour infrared session can be similar to a one-hour cardio workout. We’ve been asked by our super FITspirational readers, “Should I do my infrared session before or after a workout?” Great question! We’ve heard success stories from people who do both, it will depend on your body and your goals, but working out before or after a session can keep your heart rate increased and assist with improving the metabolism. “Similar to an infrared sauna, an infrared body wrap can assist exercisers with a variety of benefits, yet body wraps are about 25% more effective,” says Dr. Aaron Flickstein, FIT Bodywrap’s Clinical Director. Dr. Mark Hyman, author of the bestselling book, “Ultrametabolism” says that “Saunas are an important aid to weight loss and thyroid repair because as you lose weight, fat tissue releases stored toxins such as PCBs and pesticides.” Dr. Hyman also says “You can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet,” so make sure that you’re approach to wellness covers all bases: nutrition, fitness and infrared. Flickstein agrees with Dr. Hyman, saying that “Sweating due to infrared exposure can reduce heavy metals, which have been directly linked to metabolic imbalances in the body. This type of imbalance can cause digestion issues and weight gain. In addition, infrared perspiration contains high amounts of toxins. Often, weight loss can be a real struggle if your body has high toxicity levels.” Nothing like some infrared induced sweat before or after a workout!

Relief and Recovery from Exercise:

Many people experience delayed-onset muscle soreness, muscle fatigue or aches or pains after a good workout. If the pain is intense, you may want to delve a bit deeper and find out if the pain is being caused by overdoing it during exercise. An infrared session can be the perfect answer for a body that’s too sore to hit the gym again. “Not only does infrared therapy promote caloric consumption and cardiovascular conditioning, it is very effective in relaxing the joints and muscles. The deep penetrating heat of infrared rays can be used to reduce muscle spasms and relieve back pain, muscle tension and tight shoulders,” says Flickstein. Because it increases the extensibility of collagen tissues, infrared is a wonderful therapy to help your clients get back to their regular workout routine quicker. FIT Tip: Don’t forget to take rest! Look at your infrared sessions as a time to relax, recover and prepare your body for its next workout. When it comes to your fitness, choosing the right program for your body is most important. Athletes, bodybuilders and fitness-lovers use infrared heat to recover faster so they can get back to their active lifestyles. Combining infrared sessions with a great workout routine can improve results and make for a healthy way to get in shape!
